I made a new addition to the boys’ quiet corner.
New sketch pads 📔
It has been a highlight of the past week. The boys have spent most evenings drawing comics, and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching them using their imagination to create scenes. I first discovered the concept of a quiet corner about a year ago via social media. I was intrigued by the idea of providing kids with a space to learn to regulate their emotions. Every parent hopes to constantly try to ensure that their children become emotionally better or have better mental health than we grew up learning, and I am no different in my parenting style. One fateful evening, I grabbed some cute pillows and stickers and created a calming space in each of their closet.
I included a random set of items that I felt might help stimulate their sense and help them calm down when tantrums come up on the horizon. Whenever an idea pops into my head for something interesting, I am always ready for a new inclusion in their quiet corner.
Here is a list of the small knicks and knacks that currently fill each of their spaces
- 😛A Smileyface Ball: I thought it would be a great calming tool while they squished it in their hands.
- 🧸Stuffed Animals: They both loved animals, and I thought it would be comfy.
- 📚Books: Reading and pictures have a unique calming effect
- 🍫Sweet Treats: A piece of chocolate or candy well hidden for the mystery of searching.
- 🎲Dominos: Placing each piece and creating patterns always brings smiles out.
- 🏆A Trophy: I added this because I thought it looked great.
- ⚔️A Pirate Sword: They spend more time swishing it around playfully than screaming in anger
- 👨👩👦👦Pictures of the Family: It is excellent to know that family will always be there for them.
Finally, a sketch pad has joined the troops, which seems to be a hit for them both.
What exciting things do you have in your kid’s quiet corner?
